The motto of Alpha Psi Omega, written in ancient Greek upon their coat-of-arms, is αιτειτε ψύχην ωφελιμον or "Seek a life useful". The colors of Alpha Psi Omega are moonlight blue and bastard amber, from the names of the shades of lighting gels commonly used in theatre lighting. Its flower is the violet.

The fraternity's badge is monogram of the Greek letters ΑΨΩ. The Alpha Psi Omega coat of arms is designed to represent a Greek theater's stage. Its magazine is The Playbill.
Membership is open to students (primarily undergraduate) who are active in collegiate/university theatre at four-year institutions (full colleges and universities). Most casts/chapters use a "point system" for determining membership eligibility, with a certain number of points earned for tasks in theatre. With some chapters, there is an induction/training process, while other chapters choose members solely on merit, where the theatre experience is considered the induction process. Honorary membership may be conferred on certain individuals (usually department faculty) after obtaining permission from the National Officers.

The staff of the Counseling Center views counseling as another form of learning where students are able to learn more effective means of resolving concerns and developing strategies for achieving personal and professional goals. Counseling can assist those who are experiencing various personal problems and difficulties. Some of the concerns commonly addressed include adjustment to college, relationships, stress, depression, loneliness, anxiety, and self-esteem. If student needs are better served by other resources, referrals will be made to an appropriate community resource.

Cumberland University has several options for students to connect with a counselor. Our on campus counselor, Eddie Christian, is located in Labry Hall 225 and can be reached at 615-547-1397 or EChristian@Cumberland.edu. We also partner with TheraTribe to offer a wider range of counselors and counseling options for students. The Cumberland University Mail Room is located in the lower level of the Mitchell Student Center, and receives and sends US mail for University departments as well as resident students. Mail boxes for resident students are also housed outside the mail room. In addition to receiving and sending U.S. mail, the mail room processes UPS and Federal Express Packages.

Hours of operation vary according to the time of year. The current hours of operation are always posted on the mail room window and door. In general the mail room maintains the following hours during the regular school year, August through May.

Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

The mail room may deviate from the above hours due to school closings, holidays, or staff availability. When alterations to the normal operating hours are necessary, the modified hours will be posted outside the mail room. If you have any questions or need additional information regarding mail room policies and procedures, please feel free to contact the mail room at ext. 1411.

PO Box keys will be issued by the mail room to resident hall students. To obtain a key, students must present their student ID and complete an information card with contact information. There is no charge for PO Box use. Keys must be surrendered upon leaving the University. There is a lost key charge of $25 if the key is lost. This amount will be charged to the student account.

Outgoing first class mail must be received in the mail room no later than 11:00 AM in order to be processed the same day.

All mail is sent first class unless otherwise specified. The mail room can insure or send registered or certified first class mail. It is necessary to specify when special handling is required. Federal Express service is available.


In order to pick up student packages and oversize mail from the counter, an ID must be presented.


PACKAGES
All packages received in the Mailroom are recorded and must be signed out to the recipient. The Mailroom receives all small packages from commercial carriers (mainly UPS, DHL and FedEx), logs them and notifies the person or department to whom they are addressed. Packages are delivered at various times throughout the day.

At least one month prior to a student planning to leave the University, the student should contact all sources for their incoming mail such as banks, etc. to change mailing addresses. The USPS will not forward student mail.

INDIVIDUAL AND GROUP TUTORING:

Whether you prefer to study one-on-one with a qualified tutor or enjoy a group setting, the Office of Student Success will find you what you need.

The Office of Student Success is your place for academic support. The office is located in the Learning and Career Commons room 122 and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. It serves as a resource for Cumberland University students in need of tutoring, mentoring and academic assistance. The primary goal is to provide Cumberland University students with the tools that are necessary for success.

Visit the Office of Student Success to get assistance with any of your classes. We can arrange for you to meet with a peer tutor for private study sessions or pair you up with a group tutor. In addition to tutoring, we offer walk-in writing assistance with a faculty-approved English tutor, a qualified Graduate Assistant or the Center’s Director. The Office of Student Success is here to provide you with the tools necessary to be successful, whether that means helping you pass your hardest class or turning a B into an A!

While the Office of Student Success is open to all Cumberland University students who wish to obtain academic assistance and/or individual tutoring, Cumberland University faculty may also refer students for further academic attention. Delta Mu Delta is a National Honor Society for students who are pursuing a bachelor or masters degree in Business Administration. Undergraduate students in the top 20% of their respective junior or senior classes, who have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or better, are invited into membership. Graduate students enrolled in the MBA program are also eligible if they completed at least half of the degree requirements, reside in the top 20% of their class and have earned a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or better.

Almost every student attending Cumberland receives some form of financial aid. Some you have to pay back, but others are outright free. The information you need to apply for them is all here. You have to re-apply for most loans and grants every year – it’s not a one-time process.

Also, don’t think of scholarships as something you can only get as an incoming freshman. Cumberland offers a full variety of scholarships available to sophomores, juniors, specific majors, community-based awards – it’s quite a long list. Financial aid can open many doors.

All undergraduate on ground students receive a free membership to the Jimmy Floyd Center in Lebanon. Any dual enrollment, or online students do not qualify for free memberships. Any graduate student can pay the Jimmy Floyd center directly each semester for a special rate for graduate students for each three and a half month period (per semester). Memberships are activated on the first day of class and run through the last day of exams. Only confirmed (previously called official) students are sent over to be added to the list. If you are late getting confirmed, then you will be late being eligible for free membership. Once you are confirmed, your name will be on each report from our system. Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. was founded January 5, 1911, on the campus of Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. The fraternity’s fundamental purpose, “Achievement in every field of human endeavor,” continues today and was best demonstrated best by their fraternity’s ten prestigious founders, who, for the majority, obtained degrees and went on to be successful in their fields. Today, the fraternity holds over 150,000 members with 700 undergraduate and alumni chapters in each state. Kappa Alpha Psi sponsors programs providing community service, social welfare, and academic scholarship through the Kappa Alpha Psi Foundation.

There are five (5) core objectives of Kappa Alpha Psi:
To unite college men of culture, patriotism, and honor, in a bond of fraternity.

Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc. was founded at Howard University in Washington, D.C., January 9, 1914, by three young African-American male students. The founders wanted to organize a Greek-Letter fraternity that would truly exemplify the ideals of Brotherhood, Scholarship, and Service.

The Fraternity's motto is "Culture For Service and Service For Humanity".The founders deeply wished to create an organization that viewed itself as "a part of" the general community rather than "apart from" the general community. They believed that each potential member should be judged by his own merits rather than his family background or affluence...without regard of race, nationality, skin tone or texture of hair. The Office of Retention and TN Promise Services is located in the Learning and Career Commons, in Room 212. We want to ensure each student is given the opportunity to be successful in their time here and this is done in a variety of ways. We have an early alert notification system in place for students who begin struggling in class as early as three weeks into the semester. Students are contacted by text and email, where they are encouraged to seek out additional assistance for their classroom needs. We also reach out to students by text and email after mid-term, if they need additional help to make them successful. The number one indicator of success in college is class attendance, so we work with the Student Affairs Office to follow-up with any students who have excessive class absences. Finally, we offer support to all of our TN Promise Students to ensure that they are completing all of their scholarship and degree requirements. We strive to assist each student who attends Cumberland University with the resources necessary to obtain their Bachelor’s degree at CU. Sigma Theta Tau International, Honor Society for Nursing, was founded in 1922 by six nursing students at Indiana University. The founders chose the name from the initials of the Greek words Storga, Tharos, and Tima, to mean love, courage and honor. The organization is the second largest of its kind in the United States and among the five largest and most prestigious in the world.
Membership is conferred only upon nursing students in baccalaureate or graduate programs who demonstrate excellence in nursing or upon qualified bachelors, masters, and doctoral graduates who demonstrate exceptional achievement in the nursing profession. Eligibility requires that each potential member have at least a 3.0 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 scale and be in the top third of the graduating class. The Cumberland University School of Nursing Program chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, Alpha Alpha Kappa, chapter number 584, was chartered 2020.

From autumn’s week-long Homecoming celebration to our annual Spring Fling – and every week in between – there’s nearly as much to do on campus as in the classroom.

Cumberland University students have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of clubs and organizations, ranging from pre-professional and honor societies to more casual groups such as intramural teams, and Gaming Clubs.

Many students also choose to take part in an array of arts-related activities on campus such as theatrical performances and concerts.

The Office of Student Success is your place for academic support. The office is located in the Learning and Career Commons room 122 and is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m.-4:30 p.m. It serves as a resource for Cumberland University students in need of academic support and offers tutoring, mentoring and academic assistance. The primary goal is to provide Cumberland University students with the tools that are necessary for success.

Visit the Office of Student Success to get assistance with any of your classes. We can arrange for you to meet with a peer tutor for private study sessions or pair you up with a group tutor. In addition to tutoring, we offer walk-in writing assistance with a faculty-approved English tutor, a qualified Graduate Assistant or the Center’s Director. The Office of Student Success is here to provide you with the tools necessary to be successful, whether that means helping you pass your hardest class or turning a B into an A!

While the Office of Student Success is open to all Cumberland University students who wish to obtain academic assistance and/or individual tutoring, Cumberland University faculty may also refer students for further academic attention. The office works closely with the Athletic Department to ensure student-athletes have access to additional academic resources.

What holds back many students isn't their lack of knowledge but instead their test-taking anxiety or not knowing how to take a test. The office also offers study skills coaching to help you always put your best foot forward.

TESTING CENTER

The Office of Student Success is also the home of Cumberland University's Testing Center, where we offer testing services for the Miller Analogies Test (MAT), the College Level Examination Program (CLEP), and the ACTFL Language Competency Exam.

The Testing Center offers exams Monday through Friday, 8:30 am to 3:30 pm, by appointment only. Please schedule exams at least two weeks in advance. To schedule an exam with the school, please email the Office of Student Success at CUStudentSuccess@cumberland.edu .


CLEP: College-Level Examination Program helps students receive college credit for subjects they may already be familiar with, at a fraction of the cost! The exam is $89 and is non-refundable,payable only by check or credit card at the time of registration to CLEP. CLEP tests are computer-based, one-and-one-half-hour tests, and testers need to only bring photo identification. For details on test specifics, please visit CLEP’s website at clep.collegeboard.org. All prospective testers are strongly encouraged to contact the university registrar’s office in order to confirm the acceptance of specific CLEP credits. You may also find additional information on CLEP by reviewing the CLEP page found under the Admissions tab on the main website page.

ACTFL – Language Testing International offers the ACTFL language proficiency exam. The exam will test a student’s knowledge of a foreign language, with over 100 languages to choose from. The test will allow students to waive the foreign language requirement if a passing score is received (not for credit). The test is taken in two parts, oral and written. The ACTFL Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) costs $139, and the Writing Proficiency Test (WPT) is $70. For more information on the test, please visit www.languagetesting.com.

TISL, Tennessee Intercollegiate State Legislature, is an annual assembly that has delegate representation from universities across the state. It is a great opportunity for campus leaders to exchange ideas, express their opinions, and learn how the government operates. Cumberland's delegates have the responsibility of preparing bills to introduce at the weekend long event , at the Capitol, in November.

Students will have the option of serving in four different programs: legislative, lobbying, judicial, and media.
